PlayOn! Sports has announced its intent to merge with When We Were Young Productions. The deal will bring together the production and distribution experience of When We Were Young with the technology of PlayOn!
PlayOn! and When We Were Young currently partner with eight state high school athletic associations, including Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. These partnerships include the production and distribution of post-season tournaments through the Internet and television as well as access to PlayOn!’s proprietary technology platform. The combined company will also have distribution agreements in place with Charter, Comcast, Fox Sports, and Time Warner among others.
Neal H. Pilson, a senior industry executive and former president of CBS Sports, will join PlayOn! as a strategic advisor as part of the deal. The combined company will have 20 employees and employs up to 100 people over the course of the year.
