HealthTech Huddle: Social Determinants of Health-What Startups Should Know

In our next HealthTech Huddle on Wednesday, June 24th, at 5 pm we will discuss “What the Startup Community Should Know about Social Determinants of Health.” The purpose of the session would be to educate the startup community about SODH and to identify potential opportunities for entrepreneurs to explore how they might get involved. Joining us will be Dr. Jeffrey Hines, Dr. Andrew Lee, and Shara Wesley of the WellStar Health System diversity and inclusion team.

About Jeffrey F. Hines, MD

Dr. Jeffrey Hines is the Medical Director of Diversity, Inclusion and Health Equity, and the Chief of Gynecologic Oncology for the Wellstar Health System. From 2005 – 2020, he is listed as one of Atlanta’s Top Doctors in Atlanta Magazine. Dr. Hines served on the Governor’s Task Force for the Elimination of Cervical Cancer. He is active in medical missions to impoverished locations around the world. Jeff is the past president of the Board of Trustees for Fulton County’s Hammonds House Museum of African American Art, the former vice-chair for The Lovett School Board of Trustees, and a member of Leadership Atlanta Class of 2008.

Andrew H. Lee, PhD

Dr. Andrew Lee is the Chief Diversity and Inclusion officer for WellStar Health System, the largest health system in Georgia with multiple Level 1 Trauma networks, and more than 25,000 employees. Andrew is responsible for the development and execution of the system-wide strategic diversity and inclusion approach. He is a board member for Diversity MBA Magazine, a national leadership publication partnering with diverse managers, executives in leadership, developing professionals, students, and the business community. Andrew earned a doctorate in organizational psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology. He completed two master’s degree programs: University of Southern California Master of Health Administration and University of San Diego Master of Clinical Psychology.

    About Glenn Hilburn

    As Vice President of Information Services, Glenn Hilburn brings a unique set of skills to the ever-more important integration of information technology and patient care. Glenn has practiced as a critical care registered nurse, an informaticist and served in leadership roles for several healthcare software development firms. With his strong knowledge of clinical processes, systems development, and informatics, Glenn brings a unique perspective to the use of technology to enhance patient safety, improve care quality, and drive clinical innovation.

    Under Glenn's leadership, Grady achieved the prestigious Stage 7 on the HIMSS Analytics Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) and was recognized as Most Wired for the past nine consecutive years.

    Glenn holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, a Bachelor of Business Administration, a Master of Business Administration, and is a Certified Healthcare Chief Information Officer (CHCIO). He is a Certified Professional in Health Information Management Systems (CPHIMS), a 2020 America's Essential Hospitals Fellow, and a member of the Board of Directors for Georgia HIMSS.

    About Dr. Cedric Truss

    Dr. Cedric Truss possesses more than 15 years of healthcare and public health experience, including over seven years in higher education and administration. His expertise includes health care organizations, telemedicine/telehealth, ransomware, and health information technology. He currently serves as the Director of Health Informatics Programs and Clinical Assistant Professor at Georgia State University (GSU) in the College of Nursing and Health Professions.

    Dr. Truss is an active member of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and the American Public Health Association (APHA). His academic background includes obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Human Environmental Sciences, a Master of Science in Health Informatics, and a Doctorate in Health Administration with a concentration in Information Systems. Beyond formal education, Dr. Truss is also a Certified Professional in Health Information Management Systems (CPHIMS).
