OncoLens, a heath technology company in the field of cancer and DeKalb Medical Hospital in Atlanta, have been awarded the Exceptional Poster Award in the Care Coordination Category at the eighth Annual Oncology Nurse Navigator Conference (AONN+).
The Tucker, Georgia-based company is part of the Advanced Technology Development Center’s ATDC Accelerate portfolio of startups. ATDC, which is a program of the Georgia Institute of Technology, works with entrepreneurs in Georgia to help them learn, launch, scale, and succeed in the creation of viable, disruptive technology companies.
At the conference, which will be held in Orlando from Nov. 16 to 19, OncoLens and representatives from DeKalb Medical will present the results of implementing OncoLens to run the hospital’s tumor boards at the AONN+ conference.
“We are excited to receive this award by AONN+ and even more thrilled by the recognition that OncoLens supports the provision of quality care to each cancer patient,” said Anju Mathew, OncoLens’ CEO and co-founder.
Tumor boards are internal discussions within cancer programs where a multi-disciplinary group of providers including oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons, nurse navigators, and others come together to discuss a patient case and outline a treatment plan.
They are a foundational piece to providing quality cancer care and are a requirement by the Commission on Cancer. However, these tumor boards involve significant manual effort in pulling together the appropriate data on each patient.
As a result, the number of cases that can be discussed are limited. In addition, supporting data such as available clinical trials or the latest solutions in precision medicine are not always brought up or available for discussion.
OncoLens’ efforts have been to streamline the tumor board process and also provide key clinical decision support criteria to the providers during the discussion so they are armed to make the best decision for the patient.
