FinTech Task Force aims to make Atlanta center of payments and transaction community

More than 70 percent of the roughly $5.3 trillion in annual U.S. card transactions are processed through Georgia-based FinTech companies, according the American Transaction Processors Coalition.
More than 70 percent of the roughly $5.3 trillion in annual U.S. card transactions are processed through Georgia-based FinTech companies, according the American Transaction Processors Coalition.

Metro Atlanta already is a payments processing powerhouse given that more than 70 percent of U.S. financial transactions flow through the region.

To keep that momentum and build upon to expand Atlanta’s financial technology (FinTech) community, the American Transaction Processors Coalition, along with the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and the Technology Association of Georgia, teamed in the fall of 2015 to create the FinTech Task Force.

Payments Source, an industry trade journal, reports how those efforts are yielding successes for the initiative, and garnering the support of the state legislature. The report also highlights existing efforts, such as the partnership between Worldpay US and Georgia Tech that created a FinTech accelerator program at the Advanced Technology Development Center in the spring of 2015.
