
Churchill Downs will be offering cocktails via the robotic bartending technology made by Monsieur, the startup incubating at the Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC).
Churchill Downs, located in Louisville, Ky., is home to the horse racing world’s storied Kentucky Derby. Levy Restaurants, the concessionaire at Churchill Downs, told WAVE News the machines will be in place for use by guests of the owners of the racetrack’s new suites by this year’s Derby.
Monsieur, co-founded by Georgia Tech graduate Barry Givens, allows patrons to order custom drinks — from a selection of some 300 popular cocktails — via touchscreen. The company’s technology frees up human bartenders to focus on premium and more expensive drinks and gives detailed data on alcohol beverage operations.
Givens, ME 08, came up with the idea or a robotic bartender a few years ago while he and his friends were waiting for drinks at an Atlanta restaurant during the NBA Finals. Though they ordered cocktails before the game’s start, the drinks didn’t arrive until halftime.
