Velocity Medical System’s parent company opens East Coast hub in Atlanta

Varian_Medical_Systems_LogoVarian Medical Systems, a global maker of cancer treatment devices and software, opened its East Coast hub Nov. 30 in metro Atlanta.

The decision, which is expected to create 100 new technical jobs, was done in part to help Velocity Medical Solutions, a 2011 Signature graduate company of the Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC).

Velocity is a developer of specialized software for cancer clinics. Varian acquired Velocity in 2014.

“We anticipate that there will be significant worldwide growth in demand for technology and software that clinicians can use to improve outcomes when treating cancer,” Kolleen Kennedy, president of Varian’s Oncology Systems business, said in a March 2015 statement about the planned hub.

“Our acquisition of the Velocity group was part of a larger strategy to produce more tools and software that support our clinical customers. The new facility in Atlanta will enable us to foster greater collaboration across our teams and make sure that we have the space to accommodate future growth.”
